How to play Dead Cells?
- Basics of the Run
- Start in the Prison, grab a weapon, and push forward through connected biomes, defeating enemies, collecting Cells, and searching for exits. Every run ends in either victory… or a glorious defeat 😈
- Move, Jump, and Roll
- Use the on-screen stick to move left and right. Tap jump to clear gaps or reach platforms. Roll through enemies and traps to avoid damage and slip behind shields—rolling grants brief invulnerability.
- Grab Your Starting Gear
- At the beginning, choose from basic weapons like a sword, bow, or shield. Each weapon has a different speed and range. Test a few swings or shots on nearby dummies to feel which style fits best before charging ahead.
- Fight Smart, Not Hard
- Watch enemy wind-up animations and dodge just before they strike. Focus on one foe at a time, and avoid being surrounded. Use ranged weapons on dangerous elites or explosives, then finish them off with a quick melee combo.
- Collect Cells and Gold
- Enemies drop gold and glowing Cells. Gold buys items at shops during the run, while Cells are spent at the Collector between levels. Try to survive to the exit door so those hard-earned Cells are not lost on death.
- Upgrade Between Levels
- At the end of each area, talk to the Collector to unlock new weapons, mutations, and permanent upgrades. Pick mutations to boost damage, survivability, or utility, then refill health before heading into the next, tougher biome.
- Explore, Experiment, Repeat
- Look for secret walls, timed doors, and alternate exits to discover new routes. Experiment with different builds—bleeding blades, traps, turrets, or brutal heavy weapons—and learn from each defeat until bosses start to fall 😎
