How to play Papers, Please?
- Basic Idea
- Work as a border inspector. Check each traveler’s documents, follow daily rules, and stamp passports to approve or deny entry. Earn money per correct decision to support the in-game family.
- Read Daily Bulletin
- At the start of each in-game day, open the rule book bulletin. Note which countries are allowed, new document types, banned regions, and special alerts like wanted criminals.
- Check Documents Carefully
- Drag documents onto the desk. Compare name, photo, sex, date of birth, expiration dates, issuing city, and country seals. Any mismatch or missing paper is a red flag 🚨.
- Use the Rule Book & Tools
- Open the rule book to verify valid seals and issuing cities. Use the inspect tool to highlight contradictions between documents or between document and traveler’s statements.
- Interrogate and Request More
- If something seems off, enter inspection mode. Click two conflicting details to question the traveler. When allowed, request extra papers like entry permit, ID card, or work pass.
- Stamp Approve or Deny
- When satisfied, place the passport under the stamp bar and choose APPROVED or DENIED. Slide documents back to the traveler so they can leave the booth… or be detained 😈.
- Manage Time & Money
- Each correct decision earns credits; mistakes may trigger citations and fines. Work quickly but accurately to pay rent, food, and heat for the in-game family. Different choices unlock new story paths and endings.
